Adobe Illustrator CS3 Tutorial:
"How to convert pixel based logos into vector art using the trace function"
1- import your logo into Illustrator
file-->place
2 - select your placed logo
go to:
Object-->live trace-->make and expand (in menu above)
3 - go to:
Object-->ungroup
4 - Select the border bounding box surrounding the logo with your selection tool
Hit delete until its completely gone (the bounding box, not the logo itself)
now what your leftover with is your vector logo
though some touchup may be required.
Determining leftover white areas:
First create a solid filled with a bright color, then place it on top of the logo and go to:
object-->arrange-->send to back
(This is so you can see where parts of your logo may still be filled with white, such as the letter "O")
Select the white sections that you don't want showing with your "direct selection tool" and fill with transparency.
(you may need to click around to select the correct part of the letter you want transparent)
Now if all is good you can delete that bright color solid.
Thats it - you now have a full vector version logo that will retain full resolution and clarity!!
